Planning lighting and colour

Lighting as well as colour are considered vital elements to all media production. This will be very important to my groups music video. Lighting is effective and portrays the mood whilst colour is used to present connotations and denotations which traditionally indicate the artist representation, however in my groups case i will help to show the audience the relationship of the young couple. through the use of both light and colour my group will aim to give the audience an insight into artist is feeling in the narrative production. Colour will effectively be used to suggest hidden meanings and mystery in the narrative of my groups music video.

Light is a vital element to our visuals in my groups music video. This is as through the use of lyric analysis we found that connotes naturalistic light "the sun don't shine". My group will use lighting to cement the connotations given through the songs lyrics.  We have justified connotations behind each light type/source we would use.

Naturalistic light will be used throughout my groups music video as it follow the lyric. This will include sunset shots of both characters over i high angle of the city. In addition to this my group will use naturalistic lighting throughout the grave yard scene to evoke the feeling the sun only shine when the couple are together. This will be seen through establishing shots and long shots. myself and my group feel that the sunrise shot in the graveyard will portray the harsh reality of the relationship. These shots will give the audience an understanding of what is happening in the scene. Naturalistic lighting will be effective for these particular scenes as it will cement the lyrics the artist is saying giving the audience a greater understanding of what is happening in each scene. the naturalistic lighting will also help the audience understand the pain that the male character must be going through. this intern will entertain the audience more. 

Contrasting to naturalistic light my group will subvert deep house genre conventions by using dark low key lighting.  This will break the conventions of the deep house genre as the convention state bright lights to create a party atmosphere.  through the use of dark low key lighting used in the crash my group will create an enigma of who has died seen in the graveyard at the start. in addition my group will use unnatural light sources. London skylight on buildings will be used to show a romantic setting. This will illustrate the semantic field of romance which will help my group  achieve a successful narrative production. 

the deep house genre conventions included many bright lights to create a party and fun atmosphere. My group will follow these conventions by also adding a variety of different colours throughout the music production. My group aims to connect with our target audience this will be done through a diverse range of colour which the audience can relate to with hidden meanings and connotations. We have chosen to use a red car which the couple will be see throughout the production. This was done to conveys the feeling of love and passion which red highlights, this intern will evoke that the couple are deeply in love a heighten what the male character is feeling when she dies. This will help my group to create emotional links with the audience which will make our music video more entertaining. In addition to the red car we will also use red balloons to firstly show the couple are young which the target audience can relate to as many would have done the same. however the use of the red balloons will also help to show the couples love through a hidden meaning.

  All clothing used will support genre characteristics though my groups secondary research my group found that the target group like to be relate able to characters this was seen through the artist David guetta as he wore high street fashion clothing which the audience could buy. my group will follow these conventions by having both characters wearing these types of clothing. this will include a grey suit in the grave yard scene which suggest a dull a sad colour this will help to portray the characters pain when the female character dies. The female character will be seen wearing black which connotes darkness which will help to portray her death to the audience. In addition to this she wont have bright colours which the audience can be attracted to. this is to heighten the fact that she is now dead. 


Our lighting and colour choices follow the conventions of the deep house genre. Conventional lighting relates to the use of natural light sources such as the sun we would like to use. We have noticed through conducting research that the deephouse genre focus on both naturalistic lighting and lighting effect for example stobe or lazar this is to create a party atmosphere which the target audience would want to follow. As my group aim to conform to the stereotypical conventions of the deep house genre we will follow these conventions by adding a dance party scene ;in addition to the natural lighting seen in the grave yard scene.  This will portray a fun dancing atmosphere to the target audience making them want to dance. 
Decisions regarding light and colour have been discussed between the group to allow us to come up with the most creative ideas which inter wouhelp to cbecause we felt it was important to use symbols effectively to communicate the various hidden meanings of the song (demonstrated in lyric analysis post) We hope that these decisions will force the target audience to have a deeper understanding of the song which will therefore correlate in an increase in people feeling able to connect with the lyrics. 
Consequently, this also allows the audience targeted to build a relationship with the artist in addition to the song they are listening to supported by the video which is imperative to the artists success, benefiting them in the long run in the competitive industry which is ever growing. As a group, we also agreed that we would like our video to be visually appealing for audience members so that an element of entertainment is added whilst simultaneously allowing the audience to be stimulated, understand and appreciate the video content.
